The selection of the raw material

The raw material for high-quality leather is top-quality hide. The skins for Perwanger® leather come mainly from the alpine region. This mountain world is home to robust mountain cattle, bred to produce meat and dairy products.

Cowhide is not a standard product; each hide is as individual as the animal from which it comes. The selection and allocation of the skins is carried out by our specialists based on quality, weight, surface quality and aesthetics. Each individual piece is allocated to the respective customer requirements according to its suitability for the intended use.

Wet blue strength test

After the first tanning phase, the leathers are again inspected and sorted based on thickness. Every single piece of leather is inspected in this way. Nothing is left to chance. This phase is very delicate and also crucial to ensure the required tear-resistance of the leather.

Re-tanning and dyeing

Our leathers are now subject to a second tanning and are rendered water-repellent using the special Perwanger hydrophobic process. The leathers are then dyed according to the customer’s requirements. We only use proven, certified products from the market leaders. In the second tanning and dyeing phase, the work process begins using the exceptional technology that makes Perwanger® leather utterly unique.

Sanding down

Once the tanning and dyeing process has been completed, the leather surface is carefully sanded. The result is a very compact surface that does not lose its visual properties, even after continued and heavy use.

Final quality control

Every single hide is subject to our strict production control whereby it is inspected again by an experienced employee for its quality features and visual properties and, if necessary, set aside.

The seal of quality

Every piece of leather that passes our strict quality control is now measured, and the PERWANGER® quality mark is applied to the back. Our trademark guarantees the originality of our products. Finally, the goods are packaged in accordance with the customer’s requirements, and shipped to numerous countries.

Individual colour studies

Perwanger® leather is characterised by a large, almost unlimited palette of vibrant colours. Our technicians are constantly developing new and modern colour tones, both to satisfy customer requirements and to supplement existing, current colour palettes.

It not easy to develop a new, bright and durable colour, and our specialists conduct targeted analyses and tanning trials. In addition to our traditional and modern tanning expertise, our processes are extremely sensitive. The development of a new colour is observed and monitored throughout all the production phases. Perwanger strives to satisfy its customers and to develop new products every day.

At Perwanger we love leather, and love bright and clear colours. The high art of tanning is not only to provide the leather with certain essential quality features, but also a bright colour that will remain constant even under stress and environmental influences. This is the challenge we accept every day.

We want you to be totally free when designing your products with Perwanger® leather, and will therefore be particularly happy to receive your enquiry about the individual colour requirements of your product designers. Please describe the project you are planning and the anticipated quantity of leather, quality specifications if available, and the colour you require for a common colour palette. We will then contact you as quickly as possible. We kindly request your patience if we cannot immediately quote a fixed offer price for the individual development process. After receiving your enquiry, we will prepare a consultation meeting, and together we will clarify the framework conditions for your individual production. We look forward to your enquiry!
